Overview:
The website on Disaster Management and Climate Change was
created in the year 2005 with the sole intention of spreading
awareness about disaster management, dos and don'ts before a
disaster, framing of planning and policies for Environmental
Resource Management, Disaster Risk Reduction, GIS, Remote
Sensing etc.
When one thinks of Disasters, it naturally crosses one's mind that
if only it had been averted. Disasters are by their very nature
unpredictable and happen inspite of the best efforts. It appears
to be so sudden and powerful that one attributes to the fate. This
is what makes each of the disasters remarkable and larger than
life. Even though all precautions are taken, yet they happen and
the sheer ferocity of their occurrence brings terror to one's heart.
It is hard to believe that except for a chance event of the
affected people being part of the disaster, they might very well
be alive and it goes to the redoubtful human spirit that after
each of these tragedies, reconstruction and rehabilitation
happened with gusto and a happy heart. The scene of the
disaster is heart-rending and what comes to the mind is horror of
what happened and one is compelled to feel sorrow for the
victims of the disasters.
This made us to join hands and make a comprehensive strategy
for our brothers and sisters of the World through the creation of a
website to reach every houses of the Globe and create a Disaster
Free World.

1. Climate Change: Industrialized countries pledged
more than $6.1 billion on Friday to international investment
funds aimed at helping developing countries adopt cleaner
technologies and mitigate growth in greenhouse gas
emissions: --- The World Bank
2. Climate Change Open Letter: In a move that will
test the Rudd Government's climate credentials, Australia's
leading climate scientists have written an open letter to the
Prime Minister, Government of Australia urging him to impose
deep cuts to greenhouse gas emissions and back a tough
global agreement that will avoid dangerous climate change.
3. Orissa, India Floods: Certain districts of Orissa are
set to face devastating floods in the coming days. The Bihar
floods have affected more than 30 lakh people and rendered
thousands homeless. More than a hundred people lost their
lives, whereas hundreds are still reported to be missing. After
the flood waters receded, the threat of epidemics is now
looming large in Bihar. Meanwhile, evacuations have begun
and people in low lying areas are being moved to danger-free
zones. More than one lakh people have already been
evacuated and moved to safer grounds. After the devastation
caused by Kosi in Bihar, the state government of Orissa does
not want to take any chances.
A high alert has been sounded in four coastal district of Orissa
viz Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara and Puri.
4. Financial Help to Cope a Disaster:
President George W. Bush, United States of America signed
into law an unprecedented $700 billion plan to rescue the U.S.
financial system, one of the largest-ever Government
interventions in the nation's economy -- and almost certainly
not the last. The Treasury Department is expected to move
quickly to start buying distressed assets from struggling
financial institutions, although any impact might not be felt for
some weeks. President Bush and the leadership of Congress
closed ranks and sweetened the bill with tax cuts. The
compromise won wide support in the Senate a few days back
and passed the House on the second attempt on Friday by a
vote of 263-171. President Bush signed the bill shortly
thereafter.
